Don developed at Dublin schoolboy club Belvedere and his first spell of League football came at Bray Wanderers where he played in the team that won the 1998/99 FAI Cup, beating Finn Harps after two replays. However, having played in the first drawn game, Don broke his wrist in the first replay and missed out on the deciding game.

He signed for Finn Harps at the start of 2000/01 but the season ended in relegation for the Donegal side and Don moved on to Drogheda United, signing for Harry McCue in June of 2001. He was part of the Drogheda side that won the First Division title in 2001/02 and stayed on for the following two seasons, 2002/03 and the short 2003 season that marked the transition to summer football.

At the start of 2004 Don left Drogheda United and signed up at Dublin City under manager John Gill but once again he suffered the pain of relegation as the club finished bottom of the Premier Division. At this point he quit the league for a while and started a two year coaching stint at LSL side TEK United along with former Drogheda team-mate Mark Quinless.

But in July 2007 Don was back on the League of Ireland merry-go-round, signing for Mick Cooke at Monaghan United where he made his debut for the Mons against Limerick 37 on July 6th. Dom left Monaghan to sign for Irish League side Newry City in July 2011.
