Paul began his League of Ireland career at Limerick FC in 2006 and made 2 league appearances in his debut season. Over the next three seasons he made a further 54 league appearances for the club, scoring six league goals.

Paul left Limerick in the summer of 2009, joining Mervue United for the latter half of the season. In 2010 he dropped out of league football, signing for local Limerick side Fairview Rangers, but in January 2011 he signed for Mike Kerley, who he had played under at Limerick, this time at Athlone Town.

He made his league debut for Athlone on 4 March 2011 in a 0-0 draw away to Waterford United and made 26 league appearances that season. 2012 was ruined by injury and Paul made just 6 league appearances, the last against Longford on 27 April, before quitting the club at the start of September, shortly after manager Mike Kerley left the club.
