Ryan played for Wexford Youths during their pre-season in 2014 and was later added to the Wexford Youths squad for the 2014 season in the First Division. He made his league debut for the Youths against Longford Town on 21 March 2014 and he made 12 league appearances that season. He continued to play for the u19 squad while also making 16 league appearances in 2015, scoring once in a 4-1 win over Shelbourne, as Wexford Youths were crowned champions of the First Division.

Ryan began a third season for the Youths in the 2016 Premier Division and made 15 league appearances, scoring once in a 4-2 win over Longford Town, before leaving to join English Championship side Burton Albion towards the end of July of that year.

Six months later Burton manager, Nigel Clough, allowed Ryan returned to the LOI to join Cork City on loan. In January 2018, Ryan signed with Rochdale.
