Alex’s Biography

Alex started his career off at Reading, having been a part of their academy, and made his debut in the FA Cup game against Burnley in January 2007. He joined Northampton Town on a one month loan initially but his performances saw it extended until the end of the season and he played in fifteen League One games for the club.

In November 2007, Alex joined League One side Bournemouth on loan until January, making eleven league appearances during his time there. He then joined Championship club Norwich City on loan until the end of the season in February 2008, making eleven league appearances for the Canaries.

His last loan spell whilst at Reading came in October 2008 as he joined Championship side Southampton until the end of December. After playing nine times for the club, he returned to Reading and soon became a key player, finishing out with sixteen league appearances for the Royals in the 2008/09 season.

Alex went on to make over two hundred appearances for Reading over the following five seasons, and was the club's Player of the Year when they were promoted to the Premiership. In June 2015, Alex signed for Derby County after his Reading contract expired. In January of the next year, he joined Bristol City on loan until the end of the season.

He played for the Scottish U21 international side but declared for the Republic of Ireland in October of 2011 and scored on his debut in a 4-1 win over Oman on 11 September 2012. Ahead of the matches with Oman and Serbia, has 7 caps and 2 goals to his name. He was not included in the Republic of Ireland's final squad for the 2016 European Championship.
