Jonathan’s Biography

Jonathan began his career at Blackburn Rovers in 2000 but soon moved on to Bolton Wanderers where he made just 4 league appearances in three years that included loan spells at Hull City, Crewe Alexandra and Barnsley.

In 2004 Jonathan signed a permanent deal at Hull City, going out on loan to Scunthorpe United before leaving in 2005 to join Welsh club Wrexham where he spent the 2005/06 season. The following year he signed for Chester City and scored 9 goals in his six months at the club.

In January 2007 he attracted the attention of Ipswich Town and in almost four years at Portman Road he netted 30 goals in 136 league outings. His next move brought him to Stoke City in August 2010, who he joined for almost £3m. He has since made about two hundred league appearances for the club.

Jonathan made his international debut for the Republic of Ireland against Norway in November 2010 and, ahead of the 2016 European Championship, he has 39 caps and 10 goals to his name. He was included in the Republic of Ireland's final squad for the 2016 European Championship.
