Corner Kick

Cobh Ramblers have won a corner kick. Ian Turner will take it.

74'

Good half-chanvce for the visitors, as Cameron Harlson's deflected effort is scrambled away by Lorcan Healy in the UCD goal - Still awaiting a goal....

72'

Substitution

Mark Dignam replaces Michael Gallagher for UCD.

72'

Substitution

Cian Leonard replaces Bryan Murphy for Cobh Ramblers.

69'

Corner Kick

UCD have won a corner kick. Paul Doyle will take it.

68'

HOW DID THAT NOT GO IN??

UCD are once again thwarted by the Cobh defence - as they can't get a shot away as Cobh clear. A goal may finally be coming...

66'

62'

UCD go close through Colm Whelan - but his effort never troubles Paul Hunt in the Cobh Ramblers goal... Paul Doyle as I type - drags his effort on goal well wide. Still scoreless

61'

Substitution

Cameron Harlson replaces Lee Devitt Molloy for Cobh Ramblers.

59'

This has been a quiet enough opening to the second period - with neither side looking especially threatening...

57'

Scrap that - Taylor is back on the field of play - Maybe I overegged that one slightly...

55'

And now Kevin Taylor goes down injured. Unlike Kerrigan, he is unlikely to continue....

53'

Liam Kerrigan is down on the floor receiving treatment - but he will be OK to continue. It remains scoreless here in Belfield...

51'

Apologies for the quick outage folks - my laptop went dead on me briefly - but nothing happened - I think anyway!

46'

Second Half

The second half between UCD and Cobh Ramblers has started.

45' + 1'

Half Time

It is half-time between UCD and Cobh Ramblers.

43'

There is now a wind in the sails of the UCD players at the moment - as you would expect - and you get the impression they don't want this half to end. Will they grab an opener before the break?

40'

HOW HAVE UCD NOT SCORED???

Two blocks on the line from two different Cobh defenders - Kevin Taylor was one I believe - Colm Whelan and Liam Kerrigan have both been denied in incredible fashion - Cobh were momentarily caught out there and were almost duly punished!

37'

Ian Turner's cross into the box finds Bryan Murphy again - but he just fires wide from goal - IUCD are living dangerously here...

35'

Bryan Murphy forces a routine save from Lorcan Healy - but he fumbles the ball and the ball just abot loops over the bar - Let-off for Healy there...

32'

A missed clearance from Josh Collins almost sees Bryan Murpohy ghost in on goal - but, nothing comes of it as Murphy is adjudged to have been offside...

30'

Free Kick

Cobh Ramblers have won a free kick. Kevin Taylor will take it.

28'

Corner Kick

Cobh Ramblers have won a corner kick. Ian Turner will take it.

27'

The Belfield outfit have won the previous two games between the sides at the UCD Bowl – winning both 3-1 and 1-0 against the Rams.

25'

Corner Kick

Cobh Ramblers have won a corner kick. Ian Turner will take it.

21'

Liam Kerrigan'sball into the box is well handled by Paul Hunt in the Cobh goal - and just like that, the game has gone quiet again - I'll probably jinx this one now...

17'

Kevin Taylor's cross causes mayhem in the UCD box, and Healy is forced to tip the ball away from danger with Bryan Murohy lurking. Cobh have been on top in the last few minutes..

16'

Corner Kick

UCD have won a corner kick. Liam Kerrigan will take it.

16'

Corner Kick

UCD have won a corner kick. Paul Doyle will take it.

14'

Corner Kick

Cobh Ramblers have won a corner kick. Ian Turner will take it.

12'

COBH ALMOST TAKE THE LEAD!

WIth the goal at his mercy - Ian Turner heads wide from goal after an expert Lee Devitt cross finds the right winger at the back post but he can't nod home past Lorcan Healy...

9'

UCD HIT THE BAR!

UCD's Evan Weir picks up the ball and almost pings the ball into the top corner but the ball crashes off the bar and goes away from danger - That's the kind of goal we'd like to see this evening...

7'

Michael Gallagher lining out a right-back for the Students - and as I type a long ball goes out of play, somewhat typifying a fairly dull opening to the game...

5'

Some lax UCD defending is seeing Andy Myler's side putting themselves under needless amount sof pressure - precious else happening although...

3'

Former Waterford underage star, as expected - is leading the line for UCD this evening - Jack Keaney is the captain

1'

UCD’s last clash against Cobh Ramblers saw the Students earn a point at St Colman’s Park with former captain Gary O’Neill netting a spot-kick for his side.

The Belfield outfit have won the previous two games between the sides at the UCD Bowl – winning both 3-1 and 1-0 against the Rams.

Cobh Ramblers last win over their Dublin opposition came in July 2017, when they secured a 1-0 win at St Colman’s Park.

After suffering defeat last time out at home to Drogheda United, Cobh Ramblers travel to the capital to face recently relegated UCD at the Belfield Bowl.

The 2-0 defeat at home to the Boynesiders will be a real kick in the teeth to the Rams – especially given the fact they were wrongly reduced to ten men.

Lee Devitt was shown a second yellow card despite having not received a first booking. The suspension has since been rescinded.

However, when speaking to Echo Live, Cobh boss Stuart Ashton was pleased with his side’s performance.

“I think that for 60 minutes we matched what are one of the so-called better teams in this division.

“We probably could have been ahead. A momentary lapse from the throw, we got caught out and probably one of the only times where he (Chris Lyons) has got free from the shackles of our defence.

“He has done what strikers do, put it in the bottom corner. Then from there on, they probably showed why they are one of the better teams.

“Up until then, we matched them and probably in our opinion were the better side and we should have scored one or two goals when we had possession.

“But they showed their quality in the end there.”

The Students took the lead at Ferrycarrig Park last week through new recruit Colm Whelan – but they were thwarted by a late Conor English equaliser.

There has been plenty of change at UCD during the off-season, with a number of their highly-rated stars moving on to pastures new.

Conor Kearns, Jason McClelland and Liam Scales have all departed to top-flight clubs, while Dan Tobin has joined fellow First Division side Wexford.

In addition, UCD have been slowly building during the off-season in the Colleges and Universities set-up – but they will be disappointed with their showing in the Collingwood Cup.

UCD were defeated by rank outsiders, and eventual champions DCU in their opening round tie, before they lost in the semi-finals of the Farquhar Cup to Maynooth.

However, as of Tuesday, they defeated IT Carlow in the CUFL semi-final by four goals to nil – with Sean McDonald scoring one as Whelan scored a sensational hat-trick.

The Students lined out with much of their League of Ireland side on that occasion, with the likes of Paul Doyle, Lorcan Healy and Yoyo Mahdy all starting.
