Live Updates for Dundalk -v- Cork City

Updates by

FULL TIME!

The game has ended between Dundalk and Cork City.

90'

A relatively easy victory for the Lilywhites here in Oriel tonight. Truth be told they made life difficult for themselves. The Leesider's confidence no doubt rock bottom right now. They will have to dust themselves off and try and get something out of the Finn Harps fixture on Friday. That will give us a better indicator of where they are at this season, it's very clear right now they aren't going to be competing at the upper end of the table. The Champions have a tough trip to Tallaght ahead. It should be a good fixture (but you just know when it looks that way it winds up a 0-0 bore). I digress, in the meantime, the metaphorical ink is drying on Tom O' Connor's match report which will be online soon.

Thanks for following us here on Extratime.ie, keep washing your hands in hot soapy water regularly and we'll see you for the next round of matches on Friday.

90'

I was about to say I think it's going to finish at 3-0, but there are 3 additional mins. Possibly time for a fourth?

87'

Substitution

Cian Murphy replaces Beineon O'Brien Whitmarsh for Cork City.

87'

Substitution

Lido Lotefa replaces Michael Duffy for Dundalk. A standing ovation from the stand for Duffy as he walks off.

83'

Daniel Kelly times his run well to get on the end of Darragh Leahy's cross, but it's over.

83'

Substitution

Dale Holland replaces Gearóid Morrissey for Cork City.

80'

Duffy in the box with Hoban available, he has a think and passes. Hoban strikes ten yards out, and it's blocked away. Lots of last gasp defending at the moment.

As I type that, Daniel Kelly gets on the end of a cross but puts it over from close range.

77'

Poor Cork have the stuffing knocked out of them, there's nothing coming foward from them at the moment.

75'

Cork boot it clear. Gary Rogers, yes the goalkeeper, comes out and takes the resulting throw. That will give you an idea of how deep Cork are sitting right now.

75'

Cork boot it clear. Gary Rogers, yes the goalkeeper, comes out and takes the resulting throw. That will give you an idea of how deep Cork are sitting right now.

73'

Sloggett making himself known, he takes the ball down in the Cork box, rolls it back for Duffy who lashes at it but it's blocked.

71'

Substitution

Cory Galvin replaces Daire O'Connor for Cork City.

71'

Substitution

Will Patching replaces Cammy Smith for Dundalk.

68'

Substitution

Greg Sloggett replaces Jordan Flores for Dundalk. That sub must have been given to the 4th Official before that goal, sacrilege after a goal like that.

66'

GOAL!

Jordan Flores scores for Dundalk. Offt that was a flippin' screamer! The ball spills out to Flores. He's both in space but very far away from goal. He hammers it and it swerves a little in the air before finding itself in the top corner of the net.

62'

ASSIST!

Daniel Kelly provided the assist.

62'

PENALTY SCORED!

Patrick Hoban scores for Dundalk from the penalty spot. Hoban makes no mistake putting it high into the net (crowd pleaser). Ronan Hurley facilitated that spot kick with his late challenge on Daniel Kelly.

58'

Handball shouts in the Cork box, the alleged offender Joseph Oluwu, are waved away by the man in the middle.

56'

Dylan Mc Glade wrangles his way into a shooting position through the middle a little too easily and tries a shot, it was always rising and goes well over.

54'

A long ball over the top from Dundalk bobbles into Bossin's path. There's a few grumbles from the Oriel crowd. They want to see more play on the deck coming through the middle I reckon. This Lilywhite team would be more than able to oblige.

52'

Dundalk have a corner and it's played short to Duffy, who finds Hoare in the box, his header is saved at a stretch by Bossin. The resulting corner is whipped to Hoban at the back post but his volly is up up and away - well over.

49'

The second half, so far, has been similar to where we left off: Dundalk with a rake (Louth expression which in this instance means 'lots') of possession but their insistance on long through balls just not yielding dividends, yet.

46'

Second Half

The second half between Dundalk and Cork City has started.

45'

This really is the last game Cork wanted after Friday's drubbing. Cork haven't fielded a much changed team. Barring the forced change of Dreshane Dalling (sent off in his last outing) who is replaced by Beineon O'Brien Whitmarsh it's the same side that lined out in Tallaght. A game away to the champions is really not the best time to be experimental and ring the changes, it will be more about battening down the hatches tonight, which they are doing reasoably well so far.

45'

Half Time

It is half-time between Dundalk and Cork City.

44'

Interesting one. Hoban is bundled to the ground by a late clumsy tackle from Joseph Oluwu as Dundalk look to break, no whistle is blown straight away. Hoban, on his backside, grabs the ball in protest, at which point Paul McLaughlin does give a free, to Dundalk. Was he going to give it otherwise? Hmmm.

39'

Dundalk are well on top here. That said, Daire O' Connor is awarded a free when Sean Hoare's tackle is deemed to be too robust, it's just beyond shooting distance but the cross from the same looks inviting but comes to nought. For all their dominance, it remains just one in the difference. Cork are living off scraps but the crumbs are there.

37'

Some nice play by Duffy, Smith and Leahy on the left wing, Leahy overhits his cross but it's saved by the unrelenting Sean Gannon. Gannon passes it to Hoban in the box, but with his back to the goal he can't get a shot away.

34'

Daire O' Connor helps get Morrissey through as he bears down on the box, his shot comes off a Dundalk player and out for a corner. Morrissey and O'Connor looking sharpest for the Rebels so far.

33'

Yellow Card

Beineon O'Brien Whitmarsh is booked for Cork City.

28'

Gearoid Morrissey is pulled by the ref for a chat following a firm challenge on Chris Shields. He gets away without a card.

26'

Sean Hoare, Chris Shields and Cameron Smith all get sucked into the ball midway into their own half and Daire O' Connor almost capitalises with a quick turn to beat all three and race through. There's more than enough space for the Lilywhites to recover though.

24'

Duffy pokes it out of a congested midfield to Cameron Smith, his whacks a cross into the box and Hoban is there, but the ball is overhit and blazes out.

19'

Daniel Mc Glade for City jinks down the left, he does very well going by Gannon and Clearly before his cross-turned-shot arcs across the face of goal...and out for throw in.

16'

ASSIST!

Sean Gannon provided the assist.

16'

GOAL!

Michael Duffy scores for Dundalk. Well that goal was coming it's fair to say. Moments earlier, Daniel Kelly looked like his shot was rocketing into the top corner but for a deflection off Joe Redmond. Dundalk keep the pressure on and a Sean Gannon [sic] cross is vollyed home majestically by Duffy.

13'

The City box is besieged here at the moment. Cork weathering the storm for the moment as Daniel Kelly gets into the box but shows too much of it to Joe Redmond who boots it clear. From the resulting corner, Dundalk orchastrate a cross into the box, which Hoban heads and Bossin saves. That's two similar saves in all of 5 mins, it will be a big ask to ask Bossin to do this all night.

10'

Shields sprayed the ball out left where it finds Darragh Leahy who takes it down and lays it on for Micheal Duffy. Duffy tries a shot from wide left of the box and Bossin saves, but it's a scramble for the spilled ball between the netminder and Patrick Hoban. Fortunately for the visitors, Bossin gathers.

7'

Gearoid Morrissey tries one from well outside the box but can't find the target, he might have had more room to tee that one up than he realised. At the other end, Daniel Clearly floats a ball in for Patrick Hoban. Hoban connected with it but it was headed straight at Liam Bossin in the Cork net.

6'

Daire O' Connor managed to get away from Shields as Cork had their first foray into the Carrick Road half. But Dundalk recover the ball and break quickly.

2'

Quick start by Dundalk. Daniel Kelly almost got in behind the Cork backs but his first touch in the box saw the ball spill away from him.

GAME ON!

The game between Dundalk and Cork City has kicked off.

Dundalk kick off facing into the Town end.

The teams are out on the pitch. We're nearly ready to go.

Over the past half decade these have been the two teams vying for the league title. Cork suffered something of a fall from grace last season, finishing a lowly 8th place. They are also fresh from a bit of a bashing at the hands of Shamrock Rovers on Friday.

While the Rebel Army may have to reconcile their ambitions with being in the lower half of the league, this game still feels very relevant. That rivalry hasn't dissipated just yet.

Hello and welcome if you're joining us here ahead of this clash. Familiar foes, Dundalk and Cork renew aquaintances at Oriel Park tonight. It's Ciarán Fisher taking you through the live updates tonight.
