Gareth Danaher reports from the Carlisle Grounds

Cabinteely got the ‘rub of the green’ on this St Patrick’s weekend as they defeated Bray Wanderers in the Fourth Round of the Leinster Senior Cup.

Two goals from Cabinteely in the first half proved to be enough for the South Dublin side to advance into the next round.

The game was only nine minutes old when it saw its first bit of drama. Brandon McCann was adjudged to have fouled Nika Kalandarishvili, giving away a penalty in the process. Luke Clucas scored from the spot after calmly placing his effort straight down the middle of the goal.

Bray re-gathered themselves and looked to fight back early from the restart with Lovic in midfield battling well with tackles and trying to play in front man Jake Ellis.

On 25 minutes James Woods struck an effort from range, but Bray keeper Adam Hayden delightfully saw the shot go wide.

Again, Cabinteely loaded on the pressure with danger man Kalandarishvili striking a half-volley at the Bray keeper after he escaped from his marker.

Cabinteely’s efforts had finally paid off after they found their second goal on the stroke of half-time. Sean Fitzpatrick rose highest in the box to head home from a Zak O’Neill corner.

Bray started the second half brightly with young Anthony Purdy’s shot cleared over the bar by the Cabinteely defence. Gary Cronin’s half-time talk must have put fire in the bellies of the young Bray team.

Just after the hour mark Cian Maher darted down the right channel and whipped in a cross but it was quickly gathered by Quinlan in the Cabinteely goal.

With six minutes to go Lovic scored a consolation goal for Bray. Richie Purdy the man to provide the assist with a sweet cross from the left side of the pitch to see Lovic convert his first Bray goal after joining from UCD U19’s in January.

It was the visitors who would march on in to the next round of the Cup as they ran out 2-1 winners at a sunny Carlisle Grounds.
