Live Updates for Dundalk -v- Finn Harps

Updates by

90' + 3'

A sublime second half for Dundalk saw the game descend into target practice as Mark McGinley formed a one man defensive wall at times. The sending off had to have a major bearing on the result, especially given the defensive gaps as the half wore on. Another clean sheet for Dundalk and they march on to Monday's EA Sports Cup semi final full of confidence. Harps can take solace from a strong first half display and the fact that UCD were hammered tonight.

90' + 3'

FULL TIME!

The game has ended between Dundalk and Finn Harps.

90'

The mercurial playmaker eventually gets his second with a delicious poked finish after the Harps defence opened like Moses and the Red Sea. Harsh on the keeper tonight.

89'

GOAL!

Patrick McEleney scores for Dundalk.

85'

Dan Kelly with another effort which flies wide as Dundalk are cantering to the win here.

McGinley with another flying save to deny McEleney a second. He's easily been the best and busiest Harps player by a mile tonight.

84'

SAM TODD!

The skipper;determined not to let the scoreline become worse as he clears a Hoban effort off the line before the striker blasts another effort over the bar..

82'

Dundalk now with Murray, McEleney, McGrath and Mountney in midfield- McEleney drifting left and Kelly staying wide right.

Harps still have a back 5 with Harkin and McNamee in the middle of the field and Cretaro shuttling forward to support the lonely Boyle.

78'

Substitution

Raffaele Cretaro replaces Harry Ascroft for Finn Harps.

76'

Like picking over a dead carcass, Jamie McGrath found yards of space in the box to lash the ball to the net from ten yards. This could turn nasty for Harps in front of the 2217 here tonight.

74'

GOAL!

Jamie McGrath scores for Dundalk.

72'

Substitution

John Mountney replaces Chris Shields for Dundalk.

71'

Substitution

Patrick Hoban replaces Georgie Kelly for Dundalk.

71'

Yellow Card

Chris Shields is booked for Dundalk.

66'

Substitution

Tony McNamee replaces Ruairi Harkin for Finn Harps.

65'

Substitution

Jamie McGrath replaces Michael Duffy for Dundalk.

64'

GOAL!

Patrick McEleney scores for Dundalk.

64'

This one easier to identify the culprits as the ball landed between Borg and Cowan in the heart of the Harps box. McEleney nipped in between them to slam the ball to the net off the crossbar.

64'

GOAL!

Patrick McEleney scores for Dundalk.

63'

A close range finsh from the striker as he slid the ball beyond McGinley following another mistake at the back from Harps. Ascroft's pocket was picked by Daniel Kelly for the first- unsure who's to blame here.

61'

GOAL!

Georgie Kelly scores for Dundalk.

61'

All Dundalk here at the minute as Dundalk have Harps penned into their own box, let alone their half. Though one nil it remains.

57'

It's the Mark McGinley show as he denies Daniel Kelly this time and Harps clean the corner. Georgie Kelly had the ball in the net but it had crossed the line from the keeper's inital stop.

54'

MARK MCGINLEY!

Another super stop from the Harps man as he repelled a Sean Murray snapshot from 12 yards out. He's in inspired form tonight.

52'

MCELENEY!

Another drive from the Dundalk number 11 but this time it's on target and a strong hand from McGinely low to his left pushes the ball wide. Unlucky!

47'

Early chance for Georgie Kelly as Murray plays him in. Another ex UCD man, in the shape of McGinley, beats his effort away.

Harps with Daniel O'Reilly at left back now in place of Russell with Place the sacrificial lamb.

46'

Substitution

Josh Smith replaces Mikey Place for Finn Harps.

46'

Second Half

The second half between Dundalk and Finn Harps has started.

45' + 1'

Frustrating would be the best way to describe that half for everyone. For Harps, they're definitely annoyed at the sending off, Dundalk can't be happy with their inability to pierce real holes in the visiting defence while the viewers have just watched a gameu punctuated by the odd fluid attack. Here's to a better second half.

45' + 1'

Half Time

It is half-time between Dundalk and Finn Harps.

41'

Tempers fraying here as the rain pours down following that harsh sending off.

On the field the free kick is eventually taken and McGinley clawas out Massey's header down to his left.

40'

Second Yellow & Red Card

Mark Russell receives a second yellow card and is sent off for Finn Harps.

39'

More dancing feet from the wingman as he picks the pocket of the Harps defender and sees the whites of McGinley's eyes. No mistake this time as he lashed the ball into the net.

Harps almost strike back straight away, winning a couple of corners but Dundalk escape

36'

GOAL!

Daniel Kelly scores for Dundalk.

36'

GOAL!

Daniel Kelly scores for Dundalk.

36'

GOAL!

Daniel Kelly scores for Dundalk.

34'

Dancing Dan Kelly slalomed up and down the Finn Harps before Sean Murray thumped the ball off his foot and into the netting- behind the goal about three foot wide.

30'

MCELENEY!!

Crossbar. 8 seconds before the half hour mark and the former Derry City man stepped to the right and launched a rocket 25 yards out which flew past McGinley, crashed off the crossbar and spun wide. Closest we've come to a shot on target so far.

30'

I'll rephrase chance. Chance to have a shot on target. Nothing as of yet and half an hour gone.

28'

Gartland with a raking long ball, Georgie Kelly knocked it down to Sean Murray and the retreating Harry Ascroft pushed him to the floor. Central free kick 25 yards out. Murray hits the wall and Gartland clattered into McGinley. Free out and another chance goes abegging.

23'

Not much to report on goalmouth action here despite the dazzling show on view. To be far that's just in relation to Harps' snazzy hi viz jersies than anything else!

19'

Early card for the left back who caught Dan Kelly in the face after Cowan had blocked a Georgie Kelly effort. Murray's free kick was easily cleared but Dundalk keep the pressure on.

17'

Yellow Card

Mark Russell is booked for Finn Harps.

16'

Scrappy game so far here with Harps more than holding their own. Gareth Harkin is doing well in the middle.

Corner to Dundalk as an overhit Massey cross is rescued by Duffy and deflected out. Harps hack the corner clear and look to break through the pace of Place.

12'

A professional foul by Ascroft in the midfield area to prevent Shields breaking forward earns the wrath of Graham Kelly. Clever play from the Harps player.

8'

Keith Cowan, who scored in the Finn Park clash earlier this season, heads just wide from a deep Borg free kick. Rogers was scrambling but had it covered.

7'

Dundalk are lining up in their familiar 4-2-3-1 with Dummigan at right back, Massey left and Hoare and Gartland in the centre. Murray and Shields occupy central midfield roles with Dan Kelly right wing, Michael Duffy left and McEleney behind Georgie Kelly.

Harps have a 5-3-2 with O'Reilly, Cowan and Todd central, Mark Russell at left back and Jacob Borg on the right. Midfield is Gareth Harkin, his namesake Ruairi and Harry Ascroft. Mikey Place and Nathan Boyle are upfront.

GAME ON!

The game between Dundalk and Finn Harps has kicked off.

0'

The teams are out, Harps replendent in a fluorescent yellow with Dundalk in their traditional white. Gary Rogers wearing blue, instead of his usual yellow due to the Haps jersey. Moment's applause here for Jimmy Dainty.

0'

Five minutes until kick off, the teams are in but the crowd aren't. Can't imagine it'll be much over 2,000 here tonight. With the game on TV, and another game on Monday- EA Sports Cup Semi Final- perhaps that's not a surprise.

0'

Incredible strength on Dundalk's bench tonight with Gannon, Mountney, McGrath, Hoban, Cleary and Boyle all starting on Tuesday in Europe.

Harps have the experience of Raff Cretaro in reserve- he's caused Dundalk many problems in the past and Ollie Horgan will hope for similar tonight.

0'

20 minutes until kick off and both teams are out on the pitch warming up. Keith Cowan, who had been an injury doubt for Harps is flying in the warmup.

0'

Vinny Perth has shuffled his pack with a triple change in defence- Cleary, Gannon and Boyle are replaced by Dummigan, Gartland and Sean Hoare. In midfield, John Mountney and Jamie McGrath are on the bench with Daniel Kelly and Patrick McEleney taking their spots. Up front, Donegal native Georgie Kelly faces the side he scored in the FAI Cup against last season.

Harps have made four changes since their last game- a narrow FAI Cup defeat against Shamrock Rovers last weekend. Borg, Cowan, Place and Boyle are in for Smith, Deasy, Cretaro and Timlin.
