Live Updates for Longford Town -v- Salthill Devon

Updates by

90' + 3'

The ref brings the curtain down on a badly wanted win for the home side. Salthill, rooted at the bottom of the First Division, offered little and Longford Town blew off some first half cobwebs to cut loose in the second half. The final whistle and the 4-0 win drew an appreciative round of applause from supporters who have been dismayed with their sides' form of late. Longford Town return to 2nd place in the First Division and remain in the hunt for promotion. This is Conor Neville reporting from City Calling Stadium for Extratime.ie. Thank you very much.

90' + 3'

FULL TIME!

The game has ended between Longford Town and Salthill Devon.

90' + 1'

Three minutes injury time to be played here as the as Salthill launch arguably their best attack with Bennion forced to make a decent save from Brian Geraghty

89'

Derek O'Brien nearly makes it 5 with a curling shot from the edge of the box and then Des Hope almost makes it 5 from the resultant corner

87'

Josh O'Hanlon does it all himself to make it 4-0. Advancing down the right, he cut in and rifled an angled shot past Keane to make it 4-0, a scoreline which accurately reflects Longford Town's dominance on the night

86'

GOAL!

Josh O'Hanlon scores for Longford Town.

85'

Yellow Card

Des Hope is booked for Longford Town.

82'

Substitution

Ryan Ludden replaces Brian Geraghty for Salthill Devon.

80'

Yellow Card

Ryan Connolly is booked for Longford Town.

78'

Longford Town assuredly returning to 2nd spot in the table with their first victory in a while

76'

Substitution

Dan Cunningham replaces Oscar Sibanda for Salthill Devon.

74'

I dont want to boast too long and too loud about my powers of clairvoyance here but I just say... Corner was poorly dealt with by the increasingly frantic Salthill defence. Ball loops out to Derek O'Brien who's volley was parried by Keane but O'Sullivan reacted quickest to pounce and ram the ball hime from all of 5 yards. 3-0

74'

GOAL!

David O'Sullivan scores for Longford Town.

72'

Substitution

Daniel Purdy replaces David O'Neill for Longford Town. O'Neill has worked well all night but the yellow card no doubt contributed to Cousins decision to haul him off for Purdy. Salthill looking dejected here and there are more goals out here for the Town

70'

The Town's grumbling home supporters can relax a bit now as Josh O'Hanlon capitalises on some shambolic Salthill defending. A loose back pass put him through. Keane dived at his feet and the ball bobbled loose but O'Hanlon still had time to turn and regather it, swivel and shoot home from 15 yards out. The Salthill rearguard were merely observors

69'

GOAL!

Josh O'Hanlon scores for Longford Town.

68'

Yellow Card

Longford's David O'Neill is booked for a fairly harmless, but late, challenge.

67'

Gary Shaw endured a frustrating evening and has now made way for Josh O'Hanlon. David O'Sullivan advances up the right, centres for O'Hanlon, the ball is cleared only as far as O'Sullivan who cuts in and slides a ball wide of the post

65'

Substitution

Josh O'Hanlon replaces Gary Shaw for Longford Town.

63'

Substitution

Timmy Molloy replaces Danny Campion for Salthill Devon.

62'

Typically disenchanted atmosphere grips hold off City Calling Stadium. While Salthill showing no impetus to get back in the game, Longford Town fans fear the worst

60'

Excellent through ball by the classy David O'Sullivan was almost perfectly weighted to lay on the advancing Ryan Connolly but Keane is quick out of his goal and hammers the ball clear from just outside the box

55'

Glorious chance for Gary Shaw, after long ball is poorly dealt with Salthill defence, ball falls at Shaw's feet 15 yards out, but he was gingerish and hesitant and the outstretched foot of Gaul meant his shot bobbled harmlessly into Keane's hands

53'

Longford Town beginning to slip into gear. The excellent Noel Haverty makes a powerful burst through the heart of Salthill's midfield, attempts to slip in O'Sullivan but the ball is hooked clear by a stretching Gaul

51'

The attendence has been declared to be 271

48'

The second half has yet to get going. No serious chances yet, The crowd not animated. Greater atmosphere can be found at 10 o clock Mass at present

46'

Second Half

The second half between Longford Town and Salthill Devon has started.

45' + 1'

Half Time

It is half-time between Longford Town and Salthill Devon.

45'

They are massive fans of Aslan's number 'Crazy World' here at the City Calling Stadium. It has played on at least three occasions. The 250 strong crowd will be humming it in their sleep tonight. Hard to tell if it relates to Longford's season

45'

Excellent interplay from Town there with Rhys Gorman threading a lovely ball through to the far advanced Noel Haverty. The ball slightly overran and he slid to prevent it going out and O'Rourke had to conced the corner. Corner well defended

42'

Substitution

Keith Quinn replaces Willie Tyrell for Longford Town.

41'

Vaguely amused gasps there as Des Hope plays a square pass across the defence to Corie Tracey which was almost cut out by Campion. Longford Town living dangerously at the back. Willie Tyrrell limping about at the moment

39'

Longford Town monopolising possession but unable to hit the accurate final ball in the last few minutes. Attendence speculated to be in and around the 250 mark

33'

David O'Neill in his eagerness to get the ball almost rugby-tackles salthill full back O'Rourke. The press-box murmur about Tyrone GAA style tactics

31'

Corie Tracey at the heart Longford Town's defence has been slack with his passing on a couple of occasions but both times Salthill have lacked the dynamism to capitalise

26'

A goal was inevitable at some stage here with both defences looking remarkably porous. The home side looked the most likely as they have largely dominated possession and territory. Town's support surprisingly healthy after what was a desperately disappointing derby loss last week.

24'

O'Sullivan coolly slots the spot kick home, casually placing the ball home in the right hand corner as Keane dives in the other direction

23'

PENALTY SCORED!

David O'Sullivan scores for Longford Town from the penalty spot.

23'

Yellow Card

Shane O'Rourke is booked for Salthill Devon.

23'

Penalty for Town. Through ball sees O'Neill clipped by Shane O'Rourke. Chance here

20'

End to end stuff here. Longford's turn to live dangerously. Sibanda hits a excellent strike. Only parried by Bennion and scrambled clear. Then Longford Town break, when O'Neill prompting beautifully up the right wing. It was 4 on 3. O'Sullivan centred to Rhys Gorman on the edge of box. He shot weakly into Keane's hands

17'

How are Longford not ahead. David O'Neill had a glorious chance. Shaw burst down the left wing. Centred to O'Neill all on his own 7 yards out. Keane blocked brilliantly with his loeft foot. Ball only reaches O'Sullivan on the edge of the box. He controlled, struck a rasping shot which beat Keane but not the covering Shane O'Rourke who cleared off the line. Salthill survive

16'

David O'Sullivan wins another corner after neatly controlling Tyrell's long ball. Corner launched in but ref spots some shoving. Inevitable free out

13'

The home side doing most of the probing here. They advance well up the right wing with the David O'Neill pressures the Salthill defence into conceding the corner. Resultant cross cleared as far as Connolly who blazes his shot over

11'

Dodgy back pass puts Salthill in bother as Gary Shaw almost nips in, but Robbie Gaul is alert and clears the danger. Only as far as O'Sullivan who can't manufacture anything

7'

Chance for Longford Town as David O'Sullivan knocks the ball down and David O'Neill almost pounces on opportunity, however James Keane in the Salthill goal emerges quickly and parries the ball clear

4'

Sleepy atmosphere so far, with only Town centre half Des Hope called into making a couple of clearances. Longford Town are in the throes of a second consecutive late season collapse in a row, having looked good for promotion in both seasons

2'

Salthill start with purpose, launching an inviting ball into hesitant Longford defence. Ball headed initially out for a corner which the Town's defence fails to deal with well eventually fumbling the ball clear

1'
