Northern Ireland assistant manager Austin MacPhee leaves Hearts role

Austin MacPhee, Northern Ireland assistant manager, has officially left his club role with Scottish side Hearts.

MacPhee's contract expired on Sunday and he has now departed the Edinburgh club.

He took temporary charge of Hearts following the dismissal of Craig Levein as manager in October before Daniel Stendel took on the job.

Following Stendel's appointment as manager at Tynecastle, MacPhee has been involved in the background at the club’s training ground.

MacPhee was also previously deputy to Ian Cathro, who was dismissed in August 2017.

In March 2014 he was appointed as Micheal O'Neill's assistant manager with the Northern Ireland national team and was part of the coaching staff at Euro 2016.

Hearts have also announced that they have released 15 players, amongst them is striker Rory Currie who spent the second half of the season on loan at Dankse Bank Premiership Champions Linfield.

A statement from the Edinburgh club read on Monday:

“Heart of Midlothian Football Club can today provide an update to supporters concerning squad and staff departures ahead of the 2020/21 season.

Oliver Bozanic, Clevid Dikamona, Jay Nwanze, Brodie Strang, Craig Levein, Austin MacPhee and Jack Wilson have all left the club following the expiration of their contracts.

In the coming days Donis Avdijaj, Daniel Baur, Marcel Langer, Steven MacLean, Alex Petkov, Kelby Mason, Dean Ritchie, Rory Currie, Ryotaro Meshino, Joel Pereira and Toby Sibbick will depart Tynecastle upon expiration of their contracts or loan deals.

The club would like to thank everyone for their efforts at Hearts and we wish them well for the future".
