Former Irish Internationals John O'Shea and Andy Keogh to take part in FAI's UEFA Pro License programme

Former Irish internationals John O’Shea and Andy Keogh will take their place in the FAI’s 2020/22 UEFA Pro License programme.

O’Shea takes part in the programme after recently taking his place on the Republic of Ireland’s under-21 coaching ticket.

Keogh also takes his place on the course after climbing his way up the coaching ladder in recent years.

Also taking part in the programme is former Chelsea goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini who joins a total of nine coaches currently plying their trade in the League of Ireland.

The nine National League coaches have been joined by Women’s National League managers Graham Kelly (DLR Waves) and Tom Elmes of Wexford Youths.

Dan Connor, Anthony Hayes, Denis Hyland, Sean O’Shea, Matthew Ross and James Scott will also take part on the programme.

“The UEFA Pro Licence is the highest coaching certification in Europe and is recognised all around the world,” FAI High Performance Director Ruud Dokter told the FAI’s media team.

“It is fantastic to have 20 excellent participants come through the application process to be part of our next group and I would like to congratulate them and wish them the very best of luck.”

FAI Head of Coach Education Niall O’Regan added: “I am delighted to see the number of coaches within the next UEFA Pro Licence group having completed a number of our UEFA Licence courses previously.

“The course group has a wealth of knowledge and experience in the game and I am looking forward to working with them over the coming 18 months on their completion through the course.

“It was great to meet with each of the coaches last week via video calls, with Craig Sexton (Coach Education Coordinator) also involved as we mapped out the journey between now and working to completion.

“Also, this will be the platform for the design of the micro groups and the coaches will have further online one-on-one sessions to aid them in shaping their own learning plans in relation to completing the course assignments and requirements.”
