Extratime.ie eSports Cup taking shape as final four line-up revealed

The Extratime.ie eSports Cup is entering its final stages as the semi-final line-up of the tournament has been unveiled.

The tournament – which is in aid of Cystic Fibrosis Ireland – has been running for the last few weeks following the cessation of football activities in the aftermath of the Covid-19 shutdown.

The final four will see Daniel Kelly takes the reins of Dundalk to face Aaron McEneff’s Shamrock Rovers in the opening tie.

In the other tie of the round – Bohemians (Danny Grant) will host Waterford (Tyreke Wilson) in the other semi-final.

All side’s qualified for the semi-final stage by virtue of their performances in the group stages, with Dundalk topping Group 1.

Waterford came second to the Lilywhites, as Wilson secured the Blues passage into the final four thanks to a shock 7-0 win over Finn Harps who were controlled by Cameron Saul.

Group 2 was a much tighter affair however, with both Bohemians and Shamrock Rovers edging out Sligo Rovers (Ronan Coughlan) by a single point.

Grant’s Gypsies however topped the group on goal difference with McEneff’s Hoops forced to contend with a second placed position.

However, McEneff was forced to win in his last group game over Sligo to earn his place in the final four - eventually securing a deserved 2-1 win.

The action will be continued to be called by both Oisin Langan (@OisinLangan) and pro FIFA player, Eric Finn (@XampL_Xx).

Extratime.ie Sportscast Special - Interviews with Players

With sporting events around the country called off due to the extremely challenging circumstances facing the country due to coronavirus/COVID-19, some of Ireland’s leading League of Ireland stars are taking their football skills online to help raise funds for Cystic Fibrosis Ireland’s 65 Roses Day.

The extratime.ie esports Cup will see ten players from Ireland’s Premier Division take up their PlayStation 4 (PS4) consoles and tackle each other from the comfort of their own homes in the FIFA20 video game.

Funds raised on 65 Roses Day go towards supporting people with cystic fibrosis and providing them with a better quality of life through funding of grants for exercise, transplant support, fertility treatment and counselling; support for research and advocacy work to help improve CF services in Ireland; and direct funding of CF units and CF specialist staff in hospitals across Ireland.
