'It's just a little gesture to give back to a very good cause' - Cabinteely captain Conor Keeley on charity drive in aid of Aoibheann's Pink Tie

Brothers Conor and Josh Keeley have been on the charity drive in recent days in aid of Aoibheann’s Pink Tie.

Conor, captain of Cabinteely and his brother Josh – Ireland underage international and St Patrick’s Athletic under-19 goalkeeper have decided to raise some much-needed funds for the charity.

Their charity mission will see the two brothers run 5km a day for the month of April to help raise funds for the organisation.

“It was only a few days ago (when we thought of the idea),” Conor told extratime.ie.

“The purpose (of it) was to keep both of us motivated and raise much needed funds (for the charity) at the same time.

“We were both doing the odd run here and there, so we thought why not keep it up for a month and raise money for them.

“Being out of season isn’t easy at all, myself with Cabinteely and Josh with St Pats under-19s – this can be a motivation for both of us.

“Aoibheann’s Pink Tie is a local charity to us here in Dunboyne and it’s just a little gesture to give back to a very good cause that we know very well.

“Keeping fit can be difficult for everyone in these times so this is a good way to keep us going and fit until football gets back.”

22-year-old Keeley has had to wait to get his season underway – which he will now wait even longer to do so now – with an ankle injury picked up in pre-season halting his progress.

“Things aren’t easy without football,” he adds.

“It’s tough being away from everything at the moment and especially because I haven’t played at all this year because of an ankle injury.

“It is the right thing at this moment though and the sooner everyone stays in and keeps up social distancing we will all be back to normal soon.”
