Ireland under-21 Jayson Molumby pens new Brighton deal

Brighton and Hove Albion have announced that Republic of Ireland midfielder Jayson Molumby has signed a new three-and-a-half-year contract which will keep him at the club until June 2023.

The 20-year-old joined Albion in 2016 and made his debut not long after in a League cup game against Barnet in 2017.

His progress was somewhat halted in 2018 due to a bad knee injury he sustained which kept him out for 14 months but the Cappoquin native has been a revelation since his return.

Currently, on loan at Championship side Millwall, Molumby has been an ever-present making 27 appearances in the league for The Lions and has captained Stephen Kenny’s U 21’s to top of their qualifying group.

Technical Director Dan Ashworth said: “The experiences Jayson has had in the tough environment of the Championship this season have really helped his overall game and we’re delighted that he is committing himself to the club so he can continue his development when he comes back to us at the end of the season.

Ashworth also added that "The new contract is a reward for his professionalism and hard work and I’m sure he will be looking to make a big impact when he comes back to the club.”

Molumby will be hoping to make the breakthrough next season and join fellow international compatriots Shane Duffy and Aaron Connolly in Brighton’s first-team squad.
