First Division Athlone confirm details of 28-man squad for 2020

First Division Athlone Town have confirmed their finalised 28-man squad ahead of the start of the 2020 First Division campaign.

After being appointed in the wake of Terry Butler’s departure – new boss Adrian Carberry has moved quickly to put his stamp on a new-look side.

Darren Meenan, John Morgan, Aaron Myles and Evan White all remain from last season’s panel – but it will the signing of Joel Coustrain that will raise eyebrows.

Former Sheffield United Coustrain joins the Blue and Black of the Midlands from Shamrock Rovers, after he spent the latter half of the 2019 campaign on loan at Cork City.

Elsewhere, forward Mahmoud Mansaray joins after impressing in junior football in Sligo, while former Longford Town underage duo Tumelo Tlou and Evan O’Connor both join.

Athlone begin their First Division campaign with a trip to Éamonn Deacy Park on Friday evening – with a kick-off time of 7.45pm.
