Former UCD and Waterford defender Maxim Kouogun moves to Englsih National League outfit Harrogate Town

English National League side Harrogate Town have announced the signing of Maxim Kouogun.

Kouogun spent last year with Premier Division side Waterford as they finished 6th in the division.

The defender began his career with UCD and made his senior debut in 2015 for the Students in an EA Sports Cup game against South Dublin rivals Cabinteely.

He went on to make 16 appearances in the league that season and played in three of UCD’s Europa League games.

In August 2018 he moved North and signed for Warrenpoint Town but the 22 year old departed the NIFL Premiership club months later to move to Alan Reynolds Waterford ahead of the 2019 League of Ireland season.

“He has done well over in Ireland, has good experience for a young man and seems very calm and assured,” manager Simon Weaver said, speaking to the club’s website.

“We wanted to give an opportunity to someone who is similar to the other lads in terms of wanting to improve, he has shown good commitment coming over twice now from Ireland in a couple of weeks and a real determination to make this move happen.

“He’s really strong to say he is only 22 and has an old head on young shoulders, we think his game is going to go from strength to strength.”

The Sulphurites are currently in 2nd place in the National League, Kouogun’s move is still pending international clearance but if it comes through before this weekend he could be in line to make his debut in the club’s FA Trophy game against Eastleigh on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).
