Longford sign three as preparations ramp up for 2020

First Division promotion hunters Longford Town have unveiled the acquisition of three new recruits for their 2020 senior set-up.

Under-19s duo Thomas McLaughlin and Callum Warfield have both been promoted to the senior side, while winger Niall Barnes joins from Bluebell United.

After impressing during a recent trial period, Barnes has earned himself a move to Bishopsgate (formerly City Calling Stadium).

The former Leixlip United midfielder was a member of Leixlip’s 2013 FAI Cup side – as they reached the first round proper of the tournament.

He also featured in an EA Sports Cup tie against Shelbourne at Tolka Park – where his former club Bluebell were defeated by a goal to nil.

McLaughlin joins the club’s senior side after being involved with the club’s underage set-up recently.

He made his senior debut in the Leinster Senior Cup defeat to North End United in August, where an experimental Longford were brushed aside by the Wexford junior side.

Also confirmed as a part of the 2020 squad is Callum Warfield. Warfield and McLaughlin will both be available to play for the club’s under-19 side this season.
