Dubliner Chris McCann pens new deal with Oldham Athletic

Oldham Athletic have announced that Irish Midfielder Chris McCann has signed a new deal until the end of the season with a clause to extend for a further year.

The Dubliner was initially only signed on a short-term basis in October after a spell in MLS with DC United and Atlanta FC where he won the MLS Cup in 17/18 with the latter.

The 32-year-old has made 13 appearances for the league two side and despite struggling with a recent injury they have seen enough to offer him a longer deal.

Head Coach Dino Maamria said; "Chris has been a huge boost for us since he came in, bringing plenty of qualities to the team.

"I'm pleased we've been able to get him on a longer contract so he can make a bigger impact and is a key pillar to the squad for this campaign as well as next season.

"He's a top professional with a lot still to offer and I'm sure the supporters will be eager to see him back out there on the pitch representing the club

McCann has also had spells with Coventry City, Wigan Athletic, and Burnley and has amassed over 300 football league appearances.
