Republic of Ireland striker Callum Robinson joins West Brom on loan from Sheffield United

Republic of Ireland international Callum Robinson has joined West Bromwich Albion on loan until the end of the English league season.

Robinson arrives at the Baggies having made 16 appearances for parent club Sheffield United in the Premier League in the first half of the season.

The 12-time Republic of Ireland senior international began his career with Aston Villa before moving on to Preston North End where he made over 100 league appearances in the Champsionship.

He signed a four-year contract with newly promoted Sheffield United in July of last year, becoming the club’s record signing in the process.

The 24-year-old is set to take on the Championship again with promotion chasing West Brom and his first chance to play for Slaven Bilic’s side will come this Saturday against Luton Town (kick-off 3pm).

“I’m really looking forward to it, I think it’s a great opportunity for myself to get back playing regular football,” Robinson told the club’s website.

“The lads have been doing great so far this season, it’s going to be an exciting time hopefully and I can help towards that promotion push.

“The main thing is scoring goals, assisting and stuff like that. That’s what I enjoy doing.

“I like playing on the wing, I like playing up front. Anywhere in the attacking positions where I can affect the game and get into the right areas.”

“It would be nice to find my feet again, get some goals and assists and help the team get some wins.

“They (the recruitment team) have obviously seen what I can do in the Championship and know what I can bring, and obviously they like what I do and think I can help the boys.

“To have the backing of the manager here to come in during January and help him and the team get promoted, it just shows the belief and that they know what I can bring to the team.”
