Irish international Rianna Jarrett joins Brighton and Hove Albion from Wexford Youths

Brighton and Hove Albion have announced the signing of Republic of Ireland international Rianna Jarrett.

The striker has departed FAI Cup winners, Wexford Youths, to sign a six month contract with Seagulls until the 30th of June.

Jarrett began her career with Youths during the inaugural season of the Women’s National League in 2011 before moving to the USA on a soccer scholarship with the University of Tennessee.

She returned to Wexford in 2015 and during her time with the club has won the WNL title and FAI Cup 3 times each.

The 25 year old was also named WNL Player of the Year in 2018 and 2019 and she scored her first international goal last October during Ireland’s 3-2 win over Ukraine in a Euro 2021 qualifier.

“It is great news that we have managed to bring Rianna to the club, as she is someone who will bolster our forward options,” Brighton manager Hope Powell said, speaking to the club’s website.

“We have kept a close eye on her progress in Ireland, and I know she was very keen to come over to England and prove herself in the Women’s Super League.

“We are all very much looking forward to seeing how she progresses in the months ahead, and cannot wait to start working with her.”

The move is still pending international clearance but should it go through Jarrett could make her debut for Brighton on Sunday against Aston Villa in the Women’s FA Cup (kick-off 3pm).
