Midfielder Harry Charsley has joined League Two side Mansfield Town with a deal seeing him line out for the Stags until the end of the season after the former Everton player was released by the Toffees’ earlier this month.

Charsley joined the Merseyside club at the age of nine working his way through their academy set-up, featuring regularly for their under-23’s over the last few seasons and grabbing one senior cap in a Europa League win over Apollon Limassol in late 2017.

After getting capped at under-17 and under-19 level for the Republic of Ireland, Charsley appeared 10 times for the under-21s scoring twice in 10 games for the Irish team.

After putting pen-to-paper on Friday evening, Charsley told the Stags media officer it was really an easy decision to join the team in the end; “I’m really excited to sign. I spoke to the likes of Gethin Jones (former defender), Tyler Walker (former striker) and (current defender) Ryan Sweeney and they all had great things to say about the club.

The versatile youngster hopes to flourish at the League One side with the manager Graham Coughlan commending Charsley; “Harry is young, enthusiastic and has undoubted quality, given his background at Everton.

“He has energy, quality on the ball and should fit into the dynamics of what we’re trying to build.”
