Shelbourne appoint former goalkeeper Dean Delany as new academy goalkeeping coach

Current First Division champions Shelbourne have announced the return of Dean Delany to the club, in the role of Academy Goalkeeping Coach.

The former goalkeeper made the decision to hang up his boots just last September after helping Shelbourne to win promotion to the Premier Division in 2019.

The 39-year-old spent much of his career with The Reds making nearly 250 appearances for the club during three spells at Tolka Park.

His time with Shelbourne saw the goalkeeper lift the Premier Division title in 2004 and 2006 and Delaney went out on a high last year when he lifted the First Division trophy in his final season.

“This club has been through so many ups and downs in my time that if I can pass on any of the knowledge, I’ve gained I think it will stand to our young aspiring goalkeepers,” Delaney said, speaking to the club’s website.

“I really hope in years to come that we provide a platform for young Shelbourne goalkeepers to learn and mature in the right manner and hopefully to achieve their dreams.

“Whether it’s across the water or into our own great league we will provide this opportunity for them and if all else fails at the very least we will have tried to have a positive impact on their life.

“Let the hard work begin.”
