Limerick United accepted into SSE Airtricity under-age leagues for 2020

The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) have confirmed that Limerick United have been accepted into the national under-age league structure for 2020.

News of United’s admittance comes after it was confirmed that Limerick’s previous League of Ireland club was not going to take part in the 2020 League of Ireland.

Limerick FC were twice been crowned First Division champions in recent years, first winning promotion in 2012 under Pat Scully before repeating the feat with Russell in 2016.

A statement from the FAI read; “Limerick United have been accepted into the SSE Airtricity under-age leagues.

“The club will have teams in the U-13, U-15, U-17 & U-19 leagues and the proposal was accepted by the National League Executive Committee and ratified by the FAI board.”

On Friday, the new entity Limerick United released a statement saying; “Limerick United are delighted to announce the receipt of official Approval of Application from the FAI to compete in the National Underage League U13, U15, U17 & U19 and Women’s National League & U17 Girls League.

“A press briefing will be held on Monday 13th January to provide further details on Limerick United.

“At this time, we would like to invite applications for player assessments for the National Underage League U13, U15, U17 & U19 in the coming days.”
