Danny McNamara returns to Millwall after Newport loan

Republic of Ireland under-21 full-back Danny McNamara has seen his loan spell at Newport County come to an end by parent club Millwall.

McNamara played 23 times for the Exiles during his time at Rodney Parade on loan from Millwall.

Following his departure, Newport boss Michael Flynn said; “I'd like to thank Danny for all of his efforts whilst at the Club, as well as Millwall for allowing this move to happen.

“Everyone connected with NCAFC wishes Danny all the best in the future.”

While at Rodney Parade, McNamara made his Ireland under-21 debut for Stephen Kenny’s side in the 1-0 win away to Armenia.

Recently departed Waterford winger Zack Elbouzedi scored the winner for the Boys in Green on that occasion with his 63rd minute winner.

“I would just like to say a massive thank you to Newport County and the lads for last 6 months and making my stay enjoyable,” McNamara said on his Twitter account.

“I wish you all the very best for the rest of the season. Up the county.”

The 21-year-old’s last appearance for Newport came in the 1-1 draw at home to Cheltenham Town on New Year’s Day.
