Mikey Drennan departs St Patrick's Athletic

St Patrick’s Athletic forward Mikey Drennan has left the Saints halfway through his two-year contract at the club.

Drennan joined the Athletic from Sligo Rovers in December 2018 under previous boss Harry Kenny.

After a quick start to life at Richmond Park, the Kilkenny native struggled for form and consistency throughout the year in Inchicore.

Scoring six goals in 25 league appearances for the club, the 25-year-old also featured in the Europa League for the Saints – as they were swept aside by Swedish outfit Norrkoping.

Mikey is a striker who played local football with Evergreen before joining the academy at Aston Villa in the summer of 2010.

He earned his first professional contract the following year and graduated to Villa's reserve side in 2011/12.

In January 2014 he went to Carlisle United on loan where he made his league debut away to Colchester United on 18 January.

He made six league appearances during his month long stay at Carlisle and the following month he again went on loan, this time to Portsmouth where he remained until the end of the 2013/14 season.

The following September the forward returned to Fratton Park for a second loan spell, this time lasting a month.

In January 2015 Mikey returned home to sign for Pat Fenlon at Shamrock Rovers. He went on to score twelve goals in twenty-nine league appearances as Shamrock Rovers finished third in the Premier Division.

He also played in all four of the club's Europa League games as they went out to Norwegian side Odds.

Mikey stayed with Shamrock Rovers for the 2016 season and made eight league appearances for the club before deciding to take a break from the game in May 2016.

He then went on to play local football with Evergreen before in June 2018, he signed for Sligo Rovers returning to LOI football after a two year break.

In December 2018, Michael signed a two year deal with St Patrick's Athletic but his spell in Inchicore has been cut short halfway through the contract.
