Liam Berry signs first senior deal with First Division Wexford

First Division Wexford have confirmed that 19-year-old midfielder Liam Berry has signed his first senior contract with the club ahead of the 2020 campaign.

Berry made his debut for the Slaneysiders in August at home to Longford Town, and he has since gone on to make two further appearances for the club.

The midfielder has come through the ranks of the Ferrycarrig Park outfit – after joining initially from North End United.

“I loved every minute of it! It was just great getting the chance to play in the League of Ireland at the highest level for my home club,” Berry said on rising through the ranks at the club.

“I was there supporting the team as a kid when Wexford Youths began, I remember us playing Wolves, it must have been 2011 or 2012.

“I was there in the stands when Wexford Youths got promoted to the Premier Division, taking selfies with Danny Furlong and the lads.

“It's a great little club so I was absolutely buzzing to sign with the senior team for next season.”

The IT Carlow student added; “It was a disappointing season obviously because of where we finished. When I wasn't in the first team squad, I was in the stand supporting so it was frustrating to watch as a fan.

“Me and Colum (Feeney) are in the same sort of mindset, we just want to get the head down and play because we love the team.

“I know I won't be one of the first names on the team sheet but hopefully halfway through the season if I work hard enough, I'll be able to break into the team and start a few games.

“I'm hoping to get good minutes on the pitch this season and maybe in a year or two nail down a spot and play regularly. I can't wait to get started!”
