Wexford re-sign Conor English as four more commit to the fold for 2020

First Division Wexford have confirmed that forward Conor English has re-signed for the club as preparations ramp up ahead of the 2020 campaign.

News of English’s return follows the confirmation that Colum Feeney, Lee Costelloe, Azeez Yusuff and Craig Giles have joined the Ferrycarrig Park outfit for next term.

Young duo Colum Feeney and Lee Costelloe have both re-signed for the club having impressed when called upon for Brian O’Sullivan’s side in 2019.

Yussuf makes his League of Ireland return having previously played in the second tier with Shamrock Rovers B in 2014.

Giles also joins the club from First Division league winners Shelbourne, where the Dubliner generally featured as part of the Reds under-19 side.

“I had my mind made up at the end of the season really, I wanted to come back and was delighted when Brian got in touch,” English told his club’s media team.

“As a footballer you want to play at the highest level while you can, for as long as you can so I'm very happy to be back.

“It took me a little while to get up to pace when I signed in the summer, I was playing catch up in terms of the sharpness that you need at League of Ireland level, but I felt good about my form as the season went on.

“After a couple of sub appearances, I started the game up at the Brandywell against Derry in the FAI Cup and that really pushed me on. In a way the season ended at the wrong time for me.”

English then added; “Brian has made some quality new signings already and I know more are on the way, they're all lads that have really bought into what Brian is trying to do here at Wexford.

“The aim for us should really be a play-off spot, to still be competing at the business end of the season and have something to play for.

“Personally, I'm really looking forward to getting a good pre-season under my belt as I didn't have that last year so I can't wait to get back at it.”
