Saints confirm capture of former Reading defender Shane Griffin

Stephen O’Donnell’s St Patrick’s Athletic have confirmed the acquisition of former Reading and Cork City defender Shane Griffin.

Griffin joins the Athletic having spent three years at Cork, where he won both a league and FAI Cup at Turners Cross.

The 25-year-old has also played with English Championship outfit Reading, before making his return home to join his hometown club Cork City.

“I'm delighted with this fresh challenge for me at Pat's,” Griffin told the Saints media team.

“There's a great group of players here and staff as well. From speaking to Stephen, the group here are really ambitious to do well and that is something I want to be a part of and I cannot wait to get going."

And the Saints’ first team head coach Stephen O'Donnell added; “I'm delighted to sign Shane. He is someone I would have come up against on the pitch from my time with Dundalk and I've always thought very highly of him.

“He always impressed me as a great athlete when I played against him, so we are thrilled to get a player of his calibre into the club.

“He has achieved a lot in the game to date and is hungry and ambitious to achieve more and that’s what we want at the club.”
