Conor McCormack brings an end to three-year spell at Turners Cross

Cork City have confirmed that talismanic midfielder Conor McCormack has left the club, bringing an end to a three-year association with the Leesiders.

McCormack joined the Rebel Army ahead of the 2017 campaign – as the then John Caulfield managed side went on to win a league and FAI Cup double.

He was then handed the captain’s armband in 2018 and captained the side to a fourth FAI Cup final in a row.

The Louth native has enjoyed spells at both Derry City and Shamrock Rovers prior to his move to Turners Cross.

While at City, McCormack made 91 appearances for Cork – with 31 of those coming in the 2019 campaign.

City boss Neale Fenn thanked the 29-year-old for his efforts at the club; “Conor has been a great servant to the club, winning trophies and leading the club into massive games and the supporters really took to him while he was here. We thank him massively for all that he’s done for the club”.

Via his Twitter account, McCormack said; “It’s been an absolute pleasure and a privilege to wear the Cork City jersey week in week out the last 3 years.

“To everyone involved at the club I want to wish them all the very best in the future and thank them for all the hard work they put in behind the scenes.

“To all the players I’ve played with thanks for all the amazing memories. Most importantly a big thank you to the incredible fans for your support through the years.

“I’ll never forget the nights we had the Cross rocking you’s made me feel right at home from day 1.”
