James Chambers departs Bethlehem Steel

Former St Patrick’s Athletic midfielder James Chambers has left USL side Bethlehem Steel after a four-year spell at the club.

The 32-year-old departs the Philadelphia side having made 116 appearances for the club – after joining in 2016.

Chambers made the move stateside from St Pats at the end of the 2015 campaign, where he won the League Cup with the Athletic.  

The former Republic of Ireland under-21 international started his career at Shelbourne, before being snapped up by Drogheda United.

From there the midfielder joined Shamrock Rovers, playing a key role in the Hoops league winning side of 2010.  

In January 2011, he signed for Hamilton Academical in Scotland. He made his debut away to St Johnstone making nine appearances by the season's end.

However, he was soon released by the club by December of that year, where he linked up with Liam Buckley at St Pats.

2012 saw James agreed to return to Shamrock Rovers ahead of the 2013 season. He scored three goals for Rovers, in twenty five games as they finished fifth in the league.

He was soon released by the Hoops, before making his return to Inchicore ahead of the 2014 campaign, as the Saints ended their 53 year wait for a FAI Cup.

Prior to his move, he won one Premier Division title, one FAI Cup, two league cup’s, one Setanta Cup and one Leinster Senior Cup.
