Dean Byrne re-signs for Longford Town

Longford Town have confirmed that forward Dean Byrne has re-signed for the club despite much interest in his services for 2020.

Byrne was rewarded for a fine 2019 with a position in the PFAI First Division team of the year, along with a nomination for the player of the year crown.

The 23-year-old scored 12 goals for Longford, after making an impressive return to the starting XI after his 2018 campaign was cruelly cut short by injury.

The former Hardwicke striker previously played in the AUL before making the move to the League of Ireland ahead of the 2018 season.

It has been an impressive few days of off-season business for the Red and Black of the Midlands, with Rob Manley also joining forces from Cabinteely.

Making 30 appearances, Byrne commits to the 2020 cause and he is eyeing a league title to secure his route to the top-flight with Town.

“I’m absolutely delighted to re-sign with the club,” Byrne told the club’s media team.

“It’s a club I’ve fell in love with from day one and they’ve looked after me like no other

“As soon as I heard Daire had got the job and had signed almost everyone back, I was excited at the thought of coming back and winning a league title with these lads.”

The Dubliner joins Mick McDonnell, Aodh Dervin, Lee Steacy, Sam Verdon, Shane Elworthy, Dean Zambra, Karl Chambers, Luke Dennison, Aaron McCabe and Uli Keller in re-signing for the club.
