Shelbourne end six-year First Division odyssey as they clinch the title away to Drogheda

Shelbourne sealed promotion to the Premier Division for the first time in six years with a 3-1 win away to Drogheda United on Friday night.

The 13-time Premier Division winners overcame 10-man Shels thanks to goals from Aidan Friel, Oscar Brennan and Lorcan Fitzgerald.

Luke McNally equalised for the home side with 13 minutes remaining but late strikes from Brennan and Fitzgerald saw Ian Morris’ side to the league title.

The Reds have led the First Division for the majority of the season under the charge of rookie manager Ian Morris and held their nerve to edge out title contenders Drogheda on the night.
