extratime.ie League of Ireland Social Media Standings

The SSE Airtricity League Premier Division table isn’t making pretty reading for Cork City at the minute but looking at what we are calling the ‘extratime.ie Social Media Standings’ the Leesiders are leading the way.

We reviewed the number of followers each League of Ireland club has across all the main social media platforms – Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. When we totalled up the followers in each, Cork City have the most with 116,433. Sitting in second place is Shamrock Rovers with 107,750 and Dundalk, with 100,476, are the only other club above a six figure mark.

All twenty league clubs have a presence on each platform with Drogheda United the best placed First Division club, sitting seventh in our social media standings with 58,331 followers.

Wexford may be bottom of the actual First Division table but it is a different story based on social media compared with points won out on the pitch. They sit 16^th on social, while Athlone Town have the smallest online following with 5,915 followers across the three social channels.

Looking only at Facebook followers, the top club is Shamrock Rovers (60,285), while Cork City have the most Twitter followers (41,811). Dundalk meanwhile are top of the Instagram table (19,796).

As we are narcissistic, we had a look at the extratime.ie followers on social media. We have 9,766 followers on Facebook, 20,996 on Twitter and 1,296 on Instagram.  That gives us a total of 32,028 which if we were a League of Ireland football club would put us in 15^th spot in the social media table!
