Neale Fenn resigns as Longford Town boss with Daire Doyle confirmed as new interim manager

First Division promotion contenders Longford Town have confirmed that manager Neale Fenn has departed the club.

Fenn resigns his post as first-team manager following the reports of his resignation earlier this week.

Assistant manager Daire Doyle took charge of last night’s second round FAI Cup defeat to Bohemians, where Longford were defeated on penalties.

The 41-year-old Londoner was appointed as Longford Town manager in June 2017, after the departure of Alan Matthews in May of the same year

His first game in charge of the club saw recently departed Daniel O’Reilly score a last minute winner against Cabinteely to kickstart the Fenn regime at City Calling Stadium.

Since then, the former Tottenham Hotspur youth has seen De Town reach the FAI Cup Quarter-Finals in both 2017 and 2018, falling to defeat against Cork City on both occasions.

He also oversaw the club’s re-emergence as a promotion contender in the First Division, where De Town ultimately missed on the 2018 First Division promotion playoffs.

Longford Town currently lie third in the First Division table, three points behind second placed Drogheda United with just three games to play.

Doyle, Fenn’s former number two will take charge of the first-team squad between now and the end of the season.
