Liam Buckley: "If we're going to win matches, we're going to have to do it on our own merits"

Sligo Rovers manager Liam Buckley noted that his side will have to win games on their own terms if they are to push on in the remaining few weeks of the season.

The Bit O’Red fell to defeat on Friday evening away to St Patrick’s Athletic having taken the lead through Romeo Parkes first half strike.

“If we’re going to win matches, we’re going to have to do it on our own merits, but we didn’t play well enough, it’s as simple as that,” Buckley told extratime.ie.

“We didn’t keep good possession of the ball and did not stick to what we were doing in the first half – that’s the most disappointing thing.

“The first halfwas reasonable enough from my point of view. We played quite well, we passed the ball well to feet and created a few good chances.

“The second half was a total contrast to the first half and unfortunately, we just didn’t do enough.

“In fairness to Pats, they did create a few good chances, but we had one or two great chances at the end when it was one-all, but it is what is, and we’ll look to push on from here.”

However, the former FAI Cup winning manager was able to shift his focus to the Northwesterners upcoming second round clash against First Division Limerick.

“We’re a mid-table side and we’re top of the bottom pile in the league. Next week is an important game for us against Limerick.

“We’ll give Limerick our due diligence and we’ll try to do our best to beat them.”
