Rotherham United sign winger Trevor Clarke from Shamrock Rovers

Rotherham United have announced the signing of wideman Trevor Clarke from Shamrock Rovers on a three-year deal.

The 21-year-old, who had six months left on his deal with Rovers, joins the English League One side with immediate effect for an undisclosed fee speculated to be in the region of €120,000.

His Rotherham debut didn't go according to plan as he was apparently stretchered off in an under-23 run-out against Newcastle United, though the club haven't officially confirmed it.

Neilstown native Clarke, who can play on either wing, at full-back or wing-back, has been a regular fixture in the Hoops line-up since making his bow in a Leinster Senior Cup win over Bohemians in 2015.

He made 97 appearances in total for the Tallaght side, including 79 starts, and scored five goals in a spell interrupted by a serious knee injury that kept him out for most of the 2018 season.

Former Crumlin United and St Kevin's Boys schoolboy Clarke joined the Hoops from Middlesbrough in the summer of 2015 and, following a short spell in the under-19s, quickly established himself in the senior ranks under Pat Fenlon.

He was named PFAI young player of the year in 2017 and was twice awarded the club’s young player of the year award in 2016 and 2017.

Clarke has represented Ireland up to under-19 level and was called up to the under-21 squad to face Luxembourg in March only to miss out with injury.
