Andre Wright joins Bohemians following successful trial

Bohemians have announced the signing of former West Brom striker Andre Wright until the end of the season.

The 22-year-old joins Keith Long’s side after completing a successful trial period with the Gypsies appearing in the friendly against Chelsea at Dalymount Park.

The striker spent loan spells with Kidderminster Harriers, Torquay United and Coventry City while at West Brom, before departing the Hawthorns in 2017.

After leaving the Baggies he returned to Kidderminster, before having a spell with Nuneaton Town and returning to Torquay.

Wright most recently lined out for Gloucester City in the National League North before making the move to Phibsborough.

“Obviously since Dinny’s been out, our options have been curtailed and it was clear that we needed to strengthen up front,” Bohemians manager Keith Long said, speaking to the club’s website.

“Ryan Swan needs support up front, it’s his first season playing Premier Division football and he can’t do it all on his own.

“Andre was someone recommended to us by Alan Caffrey through his contacts in the UK and we did our own research on him.

“It’s obviously a new league to him and a new environment. In terms of where he is fitness-wise, he’s towards the latter part of pre-season so he’s fit, not 100% match fit, but ready to feature in games.

“He’s excited to be here and looking forward to getting started.

“He’s had a few clubs since leaving West Brom so he wants a bit of stability in his career now and is determined to knuckle down and score goals for us between now and the end of the season and we believe he can.”

Wright could make his debut for the club in Saturday’s Premier Division game against Sligo Rovers (kick off 8pm) in The Showgrounds, subject to international clearance.

The club also announced the departure of fellow striker Sam Byrne.
