Republic of Ireland under-21 captain Jayson Molumby joins Millwall on season-long loan

Republic of Ireland under-21 captain Jayson Molumby has joined Championship side Millwall on loan for the 2019/2020 season.

The midfielder made his first team debut for his parent club Brighton and Hove Albion against Barnet in the 2017/2018 edition of the Carabao Cup.

He has represented the Republic of Ireland internationally all the way up from under-15 level before making his under-21 debut this year.

The 19-year-old was part of the Republic of Ireland U21 squad at this year’s Toulon Tournament where they finished in fourth place after losing to Mexico on penalties.

The Waterford man will link up with senior Republic of Ireland internationals Shaun Williams, Alex Pearce and Aiden O’Brien at The Den for the duration of the upcoming football season in England.

“This move comes at the right time for Jayson, and his new deal is well deserved after plenty of hard work over the past few years,” Brighton under-23 coach Simon Rusk told his club’s website.

“Jayson has always had the desire to take his game to the next level, and the opportunity to play senior football in the second tier will certainly give him the chance to do that.

“The Championship is one of the most competitive leagues in the world, and we hope Jayson makes the very most of his time at Millwall during the upcoming season.”
