Chelsea unveil Frank Lampard as new Head Coach ahead of friendly visits to Dublin

Europa League champions Chelsea have confirmed that club legend Frank Lampard has been appointed as the club’s new Head Coach on a three-year contract.

The 41-year-old manager returns to Stamford Bridge having made his name there as a player with 648 appearances and 211 goals to his name.

Lampard’s first role in management came just last year when he took over the reins of Championship club Derby County.

The former England international led the Rams to a Championship Playoff final before falling short to at the final hurdle to Aston Villa.  

“I am immensely proud to be returning to Chelsea as head coach, the 2012 Champions League winner said.   

“Everyone knows my love for this club and the history we have shared, however, my sole focus is on the job in hand and preparing for the season ahead.

“I am here to work hard, bring further success to the club and I cannot wait to get started.’

Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia added; “It gives us great pleasure to welcome Frank back to Chelsea as head coach. Frank possesses fantastic knowledge and understanding of the club and last season, he demonstrated he is one of the most talented young coaches in the game.

“After 13 years with us as a player, where he became a club legend and our record goalscorer, we believe this is the perfect time for him to return and are delighted he has done so.

“We will do everything we can to ensure he has all the support required to be a huge success.”



In other news, Gianfranco Zola has left the West Londoners having been the number two to former Chelsea Head Coach Maurizio Sarri who was recently installed as Juventus first-team manager

Lampard’s first game in charge of Chelsea will take place on July 10th against Premier Division Bohemians at Dalymount Park.

The recently installed Chelsea boss will then take his side to Richmond Park on Saturday the 13th to face St Patrick’s Athletic.
