Former Cork City double-winner Jimmy Keohane signs two-year deal with Rochdale

Former Cork City and Sligo Rovers midfielder Jimmy Keohane has extended his contract with English League One club Rochdale by a further two years.

Keohane initially accepted a short-term contract from Rochdale in February after leaving Cork City at the end of last season.

Keohane's performances during his eight first team appearances have cemented his place in manager Brian Barry-Murphy’s plans for 2019/20 and beyond.

Keohane, who played in practically every position during his successful stint at Turner's Cross, broke through at Wexford Youths before embarking on his first foray in the English leagues at Bristol City.

Keohane made 81 appearances for Exeter City before moving on to Woking, and then crossed the Irish Sea again to Sligo Rovers.

He was a key member of the Cork City squad that clinched the SSE Airtricity League and Irish Daily Mail FAI Cup double in 2017.

He contributed ten goals from a variety of positions for the Rebel Army and has been sorely missed as City's fortunes have plummeted this season.

The Kilkenny native is not the only former Leesider at Spotland, joining Stephen Dooley, Ryan Delaney and Barry-Murphy himself in having plied his trade at Turner's Cross.

“I’m delighted to get the deal done,” Keohane told the Dale’s media team.

“I’m looking forward to the times ahead and hopefully they can be successful ones. There’s a great feeling around.

“Brian and Lee [Riley] have put across their points of how they want us to play and that’s exciting.

“They’ve got a lot of fresh ideas and the way we’re going to try and play is exciting. It’s something I’m really looking forward to.”
