Premier Division Round-up: Bohs reign supreme in the capital as Pats leave it late to overcome Finn Harps

Bohemians continued their Dublin Derby dominance over Shamrock Rovers on Friday evening with a 2-1 win at Dalymount Park.

The result ensures Dundalk remain five points clear at the top of the table without playing a game as the Hoops passed up a chance to use their game in hand to reduce the gap to two.

The Gypsies took the lead through Daniel Mandroiu’s s first-half spot-kick after the former Brighton & Hove Albion man saw his earlier penalty saved by Alan Mannus.

Dan Carr levelled proceedings for Stephen Bradley’s side during the opening stages of the second period.

However, just eight minutes later, Mandroiu unleashed a goal of the season contender to secure all three points for Bohs who have now gone eight without defeat against their fierce Dublin rivals.

Stephen Bradley’s side did press for an equaliser with the eight minutes added on, but they could not create that one big chance they needed with the Bohemians defence holding firm.

Keith Long’s side sealed their third win over the Hoops this season which leaves them nine from nine over their southside counterparts.

In the other game taking place in the capital, St. Patrick’s Athletic ran out 1-0 winners against a frustrated Finn Harps side at Richmond Park.

Substitute Jake Walker gave his side the win with a late goal eight minutes from time.

Despite creating chances, the away side would come to rue those misses as Pats finally broke the deadlock late on through substitute Walker.

A brilliant ball from Lee Desmond was played down the right and Dean Clarke did very well to sprint onto it.

His low cross found Walker unmarked in the box and the home fans held their breath as his half-scuffed shot trickled past Mark McGinley and went in off the post.

In the night’s other game at the Showgrounds, Cork City and Sligo Rovers played out a 1-1 draw.

Striker Graham Cummins gave John Cotter’s side an early lead before former City forward Ronan Coughlan levelled just before the hour mark.

The result at the Showgrounds saw Sligo Rovers fall a further two points behind St Patrick’s Athletic in the league table while City went thirteen points clear of UCD in 9th.
