Watch: Stunning strike from Danny Mandroiu sees Bohemians maintain their hoodoo over rivals Shamrock Rovers

Dave Donnelly reports from Dalymount Park

A thunderbolt from Danny Mandroiu proved the difference as Bohemians made it three Dublin Derby wins from three this season against fierce rivals Shamrock Rovers.

The Dubliner’s stunning strike on the hour mark, his second from the game after netting from the spot in the first half, proved the difference as Bohs held on through 12 minutes of stoppage time.

Mandroiu had missed a penalty early on at 0-0 but he made amends by scoring the opener and his was the magic that proved the Hoops’ undoing after Dan Carr had levelled after the break.

The former Brighton underage star latched onto a knockdown from Luke Ward-Slater before unleashing a rocket from the guts of 30 yards that left Alan Mannus with no chance.

Mannus had shown his value to the Hoops’ cause after a quarter of an hour as he produced a top-drawer save to deny Mandriou’s first penalty kick.

The 21-year-old had won the spot-kick himself after Rovers failed to clear their lines and he nipped in ahead of Jack Byrne, who clipped Mandroiu with his outstretched leg.

Mandroiu struck his penalty well but the former Northern Ireland international went the right way and flung out two long arms to claw the ball away from goal.

The confident Mandroiu was never likely to shirk responsibility, however, and when Greg Bolger was penalised for a trip on Ryan Swan, he changed tack and sent Mannus the wrong way to make it 1-0.

Rovers had numerous chances to level but they did finally make the break through early in the second half when Ronan Finn found Dan Carr free in the box.

The Bohs defenders appealed for offside but Carr continued his run and flicked the ball gracefully into the far corner – the first goal Rovers have scored against Bohs this season.
