Shane Long ruled out of Denmark and Gibraltar Euro qualifiers with hamstring injury

Shane Long has pulled out of the Republic of Ireland squad to face Denmark and Gibraltar after picking up a hamstring injury in training.

The FAI announced on Monday that the 32-year-old has been ruled out of the games on Friday and the following Monday, but there’s no news as yet on whether he’ll be replaced.

The Southampton striker has yet to feature under Mick McCarthy after withdrawing from the March double-header with Gibraltar and Georgia due to a groin injury.

Preston duo Sean Maguire and Callum Robinson, Portsmouth’s Ronan Curtis, Sheffield United’s David McGoldrick and Aston Villa’s Scott Hogan are the remaining strikers.

Should McCarthy decide on a replacement, he could call on Aiden O’Brien, who featured as a sub against Georgia, or James Collins, who was an unused sub.

Ireland face Denmark in Copenhagen on Friday, June 7th before facing Gibraltar at the Aviva Stadium on Monday, June 10th (both games kick-off at 7.45pm Irish time).
