Peamount United tempt former league-winning defender Clare Conlon out of retirement

Peamount United have tempted former Raheny United and Wexford Youths defender Clare Conlon out of retirement ahead of the new Women’s National League season.

The 32-year-old has been without a league club since leaving Wexford during the 2017 season but manager James O’Callaghan has persuaded her back into the fold for 2019.

It’s been a relatively settled offseason at Greenogue following last season’s second-placed finish and FAI Cup final defeat.

The only confirmed departure to date has been midfielder Sarah McKevitt – who has signed for the champions Wexford – and the only senior arrival confirmed so far is Conlon.

Laois native Conlon famously won the FAI Cup with Raheny United in November 2014 before dashing to Clane to help her GAA club, Sarsfields Mountmellick, to Leinster title the same day.

The defender also won a League title in 2014 with the north Dublin club and competed for both Raheny and Wexford in the Champions League,.

Peamount kick off their Women's National League campaign at home to Cork City on Saturday evening in Greenogue (kick-off 6.30pm).
