Midfielder Tony McNamee returns to Finn Harps after two-year absence

Finn Harps have confirmed that Tony McNamee has returned to the club two years after leaving to play amateur football with Swilly Rovers.

This is McNamee’s second spell playing under Ollie Horgan’s management having signed for the club in November 2014.

McNamee, like his brothers Barry and Shane, spent three years in the youth ranks at Derry City but his involvement with the senior side was minimal as he played mainly with the under-19 and reserve sides.

In August 2014 he moved to Glenavon, where he would make four appearances for the side in three months, before joining Finn Harps.

The 25-year-old played a key role in the 2015 season as Harps gained promotion to the Premier Division.

McNamee made 25 appearances and played in all four play-off games against UCD and Limerick in his debut season at Finn Park.

McNamee signed for Donegal side Swilly Rovers in 2016, playing 60 times in two years at the Ulster Senior League club.

“He’s a good footballer and decided to come back in to us for pre-season training,” manager Ollie Horgan told the club’s website.

“That has gone well and while he still has a bit of work to do we’re confident that Tony will have a big role to play for us in the new season.

“It’s good to have another player like him on board who has previous experience of the Premier Division from two years ago.”
