Shelbourne snap up full back Aidan Friel from promoted Harps

Defender Aidan Friel has joined First Division title favourites Shelbourne from newly-promoted Finn Harps as the Reds ramp up their preparations for 2019.

Friel joins an exciting array of talent at the Tolka Park outfit as Ian Morris, in his first job in senior management, looks to propel Shels back to the top tier of Irish football.

Premier Division experience and quality has arrived into the club through the likes of Conan Byrne and Oscar Brennan.

Attacking full-back Friel’s arrival strengthens an already fiercely competitive side at the storied Richmond Road venue.

Prior to his decision to move to the Reds, the Strabane native has experience with many of Shels First Division rivals in Athlone Town and Longford Town.

He also lined out Wexford Youths (now Wexford FC) in the Premier Division during the 2016 campaign.

Crucially, the Tyrone man has experience of promotion from the second tier with Harps, with whom the 27-year-old won promotion at the expense of Limerick.

Friel made 20 league appearances for the Co. Donegal side, scoring a solitary goal in the process, in a 7-1 drubbing of Cabinteely on September 22nd.
