Shane Duffy signs new five year contract with Brighton

The Derry Man has put pen to paper on a new deal which will see him remain at Brighton & Hove Albion for a further five years.

Since making the switch to the Southeast Coast from Blackburn in 2016, Duffy has been a mainstay in Chris Hughton’s side. Duffy made 30 appearances for the Seagulls in the 2016/17 season that saw them stroll to automatic promotion from the championship, with games to spare. In Brighton's inaugural Premier League season, Duffy made 37 appearances in the league- absent for only a solitary league fixture. Duffy has begun this season in similar vein, having started all of Brighton's eight league games to date. Duffy put in a Man of the Match performance as the Seagulls claimed their second win of the season with a 1-0 victory over at home to West Ham United on Friday night.

Duffy's time at Brighton has already presented him with many challenges, but he has relished them telling the club’s website.

“I think being at this level has been tough, but it’s also given me some of my most memorable moments in my career so far.”

Ireland fans will be hoping Duffy can carry his fine domestic form on into Ireland's upcoming international fixtures against Denmark and Wales in the Uefa Nations League.
