Sweden shock world number six side Switzerland to book quarter final with England or Colombia

Sweden stunned the team ranked sixth in the world as they booked a World Cup quarter final with either England or Colombia.

Emil Forsberg's goal midway through the second half was enough to see the Group F winners past the favourites, who had defender Michael Lang sent off in injury time.

The Swedes went into the match without suspended midfielder Sebastian Larsson – whose club side AIK will face Shamrock Rovers in the Europa League qualifiers later this month.

It didn't seem to bother the ranked outsiders, however, as his replacement Gustav Svensson helped ensure the Swiss couldn't turn their possession into clear chances.

Forsberg deservedly put his side in front with a deflected shot from outside the box and, in injury time, Martin Olsson broke clear with a chance to seal the win.

Olsson was fouled by Lang on the edge of the area and, despite the referee reversing his initial penalty, Sweden held on for back-to-back victories for the first time since reaching the 1958 final
