Watch: Cabinteely midfielder's quick thinking leads to bizarre - but legal - goal against Galway United

Luke Clucas had a full debut to remember for Cabinteely as he created possibly the strangest goal the League of Ireland will witness this season.

Under-19 midfielder Clucas was handed his first senior start by manager Pat Devlin but the Stradbrook Park side found themselves two goals down with injury time approaching.

In his attempt to wind down the clock, Galway keeper Tadhg Ryan picked up the ball before dropping it after a challenge from Eoin Stokes.

Complaining that he'd be caught, referee Jason Mannix instructed him to continue and, picking the ball up again, correctly ruled him to have committed a foul.

Clucas' sharp reactions saw him run over and take the free kick quickly, before the Galway defenders had time to get back, and he squared for Keith Dalton to tap home.

It all happened so quickly that even the Tribesmen's own social media people were unsure about what exactly had gone on.

Defender Robbie Williams gave Galway an early lead, netting his first goal for the club with a shot on the turn after Cabo failed to deal with a free kick into the box.

And Marc Ludden doubled the advantage five minutes before the break as he turned home Gary Shanahan's cross from close range.

That's the way it stayed until the final minute, when Clucas' quick thinking set up Dalton for an easy tap-in, but Cabo couldn't find a leveller despite Conor Earley going close in injury time.
